When to use Subjuntivo Pretérito Imperfecto
- Past wishes, doubts, and emotions (Quería que vinieras).
- Hypothetical si-clauses (Si fuera rico, viajaría más).
- Polite or softened requests (Quisiera un café, por favor).
- Both -ra and -se endings are valid; -ra is the everyday default.
Formation
Take the ellos-form of the Pretérito Indefinido, drop -ron, then add the imperfect-subjunctive endings (-ra/-ras/-ra/-´ramos/-rais/-ran or -se/-ses/-se/-´semos/-seis/-sen). Irregulars like tener → tuvieron → tuviera, decir → dijeron → dijera follow the same rule.
