When to use Presente Continuo

  • An action happening right at this moment (Estoy escribiendo).
  • A temporary situation during a window of time (Este mes estoy estudiando para el DELE).
  • An action interrupted by another action (Estaba leyendo cuando llegó).

Formation

Conjugate the auxiliary estar in the present, then add the gerundio of the main verb (-ar → -ando; -er/-ir → -iendo). Some gerundios shift their stem (dormir → durmiendo, leer → leyendo, ir → yendo).
